Mexican “Judges Houses” location welcomes Mel B and the Boys category, along with surprise guest Emma Bunton

Riviera Maya, Mexico (September 30, 2014)Occidental Grand Xcaret Resort, part of Occidental Hotels & Resorts , recently welcomed the X Factor crew and Judge Mel B, after being selected as a 2014 official location for the "Judges Houses" portion of the popular British reality television show. The “Judges Houses” episode will see Mel B’s team jet off to Occidental Grand Xcaret in hopes of securing a spot in the final 12 acts and performing on the live shows.

Mel B and her contestants found time between rehearsals and performances to enjoy the resort’s ancient Mayan Ruins, restaurants, pools, beaches, spa and Dolphinarium. From surprising the boys with her guest judge and former Spice Girls bandmate, Emma Bunton, to performing on the resort’s stunning grounds, Mel B, the crew and contestants were able to experience why so many come to unwind and recharge at Occidental Grand Xcaret. Allegro Cozumel Resort Reopens Their Door on December 24, 2014

Miami, FL (November 18, 2014) – Occidental Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce that the Allegro Cozumel Resort officially reopens on December 24, 2014 – just in time for the Christmas holiday season. The resort has been closed since August 18, 2014 as a result of a fire on the property.

"We are very pleased to announce that we will be fully operational with complete guarantee during the holiday period this Christmas. We appreciate the dedication and effort that our teams have taken to ensure the hotel was running in full gear as soon as possible and we hope that our customers are satisfied with the rehabilitation to the hotel," said Jaime Buxó, General Director, Occidental Hotels & Resorts.

Since August, the Allegro Resort Cozumel team has worked closely with Aon, the broker responsible for the management of the insurance program, Mapfre, the insurance company, and ASEVASA, the engineering company, in order to rebuild the resort quickly. Allegro Cozumel Resort will be fully operational by Christmas, continually improving the experience of the brand and product throughout the process.  Allegro Cozumel updated their facilities through renovated restaurants, bars, lobby area, reception desks, the night club and the theater.

Occidental Hotels & Resorts and Estelar Hotels join forces to form marketing partnership

Madrid, Spain (October 30, 2013) – Following their joint success with Occidental Grand Cartagena, Occidental Hotels & Resorts and Estelar Hotels announced a strategic marketing agreement which will allow the two companies to collaborate in a sales strategy for five key flagship hotels from each chain. This alliance will enhance the visibility of Occidental Hotels & Resorts as well as Estelar Hotels in those markets where the companies currently do not have a presence. In addition, the companies will leverage each other’s strengths in well-established sales networks: Colombia and Peru for Estelar Hotels, and Europe, the United States and Latin America for Occidental Hotels & Resorts.

A total of ten hotels make up this ambitious and strategic marketing alliance. Included in the partnership are the following Estelar Hotels: La Fontana (Bogota, Colombia), Hotel Estelar Milla de Oro (Medellin, Colombia), Hotel Estelar en Alto Prado (Barranquilla, Colombia), Estelar Santamar Hotel & Convention Center (Santa Marta, Colombia) and Hotel Estelar Miraflores (Lima, Perú). Property Upgrades Further Enhance Overall Guest Experience at Luxury Resort

Renovations at Occidental Grand Papagayo have provided the property with a refreshing new look. Madrid, May 10, 2013. Following months of negotiations, Occidental Hotels & Resorts has concluded its long-term debt refinancing process through an agreement with 10 Spanish and International entities which have endorsed the company´s 2012-2016 Business Plan.  The process, supervised by financial advisors of the firm IREA, which is subject to completion of the final terms, will allow the Company to refinance its debt, and initiate a significant amount in investments with an intensive renovation and improvement plan of its hotels and resorts within the chain.


Upon the successful completion of the refinance process, with the support of financial institutions, in accordance to its Business Plan, Occidental will focus the development of its hotel business activities over the coming years in 7 countries of the Caribbean and Central America (Aruba, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Mexico), where the Company manages 17 hotels, 12 of which are owned by the chain and 5 are under management agreements. Occidental Hotels & Resorts is also one of the leading companies in the time-share industry through its Occidental Vacation Club unit which has a portfolio of 23,000 members, mostly in the United States and Canada.


The commitment of the shareholders of Occidental Hotels & Resorts towards the Caribbean, and the agreement to terminate unprofitable operations in Spain, has permitted to reposition the Company at profitability levels that allow it to increase its competitive advantage. Between 2010 and 2012 the Company completed an important consolidation effort that has allowed it to increase its EBITDA from $29 million USD in 2010 (where the activities in Spain contributed to significant operating loss) to $54 million USD in 2012. Today Occidental Hotels & Resorts announced an aggressive development plan for 2013 to enhance its product offering with refurbishments at some of the main hotels and resorts belonging to the chain. The goal of the improvements will be to create clear differentiation among its four brands to ultimately increase guest satisfaction.

In 2013 Occidental Hotels & Resorts will concentrate on the following three strategic business goals:

- Refurbishment of hotels and resorts

- A strategic improvement plan to differentiate and innovate the hotels

- Expansion and development of new destinations

 

Refurbishment of hotels and resorts

Occidental Grand Nuevo Vallarta***** (Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico)

Occidental Grand Nuevo Vallarta, completes the refurbishment which started in 2012 with an investment of $15 milllion USD with the addition of a second swimming pool, situated along the beach with beautiful views of the tranquil turquoise blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. The hotel will also have a new theater offering daily shows and entertainment for the enjoyment of adult and children alike, as well as a brand new Kids Club for the more little ones.

Occidental El Embajador***** (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic)

The iconic 5 star Occidental El Embajador in the city of Santo Domingo will undergo a complete renovation of with an investment of $4 milllion USD. The refurbishments will be throughout the hotel including public areas and rooms that will offer modern amenities for the well-being and of its guests combining modern design with classic decorative touch.

Areas like the Lobby Bar or the hotel’s Convention Center, boasting 8 salons ideal for hosting any type of event, will position the Occidental El Embajador as a unique hotel, ideal for leisure as well as business travelers in the capital city of Santo Domingo.

The renovations at El Embajador are set to be completed by November 2013. The project will take place in different phases and are planned to be performed in a discreet manner not to disturb guests and to guarantee a pleasant stay.

 

A strategic improvement plan to improve, differentiate and innovate the hotels.

The company has planned a total investment of over $ 25 million UDS to improve its hotels and resorts in the Caribbean and Central America.

Occidental Grand Punta Cana***** (Punta Cana, Dominican Republic)

Situated on the most spectacular stretch of white sand beach in the country, along the shores of Bavaro, Occidental Grand Punta Cana will complete the refurbishment of its rooms with a new décor and added comfort. The restaurants and the Lobby Bar will enjoy a fresh new image after the renovations totaling an investment of more than $3.6 million USD.

The iconic disco, Mangú, in Punta Cana will be unveiling a brand new image. With the start of this new phase, Mangú disco will offer an innovative alternative to the nightlife with its design as well as the type of performing acts that it will offer including acrobatic circus style dancers and entertainers as well as international DJ’s. The new Mangú will have two independent levels, climate controlled, outdoor terrace for those that prefer to lounge and enjoy their cocktails in a more relaxed atmosphere, 4 bars, 2 DJ booths with the latest equipment, 2 dance floors, and VIP area with private dance floor.

Occidental Grand Papagayo***** (Guanacaste, Costa Rica)

The last phase of the room refurbishments will be completed in 2013 unveiling new decor and amenities as well as the upgrade of the Lobby Deck.

Allegro Papagayo**** (Guanacaste, Costa Rica)

The successful Allegro Papagay will commence the renovation of its rooms and restaurants creating a more attractive and relaxing vacation atmosphere in one of the most privileged locations in Costa Rica, in Papgayo, where virgin beaches fuse with the spectacular surrounding nature.

Company Expansion

Occidental Hotels & Resorts, will continue its development and expansion efforts which have been confirmed with the opening of Occidental Grand Cartagena***** in Colombia in 2011 and Haiti in 2012 with the debut of the Royal Oasis by Occidental*****.

The group continues to negotiate with various hotel properties to close management contracts that will allow the company to expand its network of city hotels in the Caribbean as well as its resorts in the Caribbean, Central America and South America.

Occidental Hotels & Resorts will continue to build strategic alliances that will allow it to expand its line of business with large leisure groups as follows:

- Occidental Hotels & Resorts and TUI Hotels signed a long-term 10 year lease agreement at FITUR 2013. This new lease agreement with TUI Hotels will allow for a more comprehensive development of the MAGIC LIFE brand at Occidental Grand Fuerteventura. TUI had been managing the hotel until the signing of this agreement.

- The results are absolutely positive, on the anniversary of our strategic Alliance with the Colombian hotel chain Estelar, which started with the opening of Occidental Grand Cartagena. Together with Grupo Estelar we continue to study new hotel development opportunities to increase the volume of business and our portfolio in Colombia.
